When the Hope Island expedition gets back, there
is worrying news: Tai-San is sick. Everyone assumes she has
the virus. Lex orders her to take some of the antidote they
brought back from Hope Island. In fact no one is sure what
it is, it just might be Antidote. Tai-San refuses. Lex becomes
so abusive that Amber orders him out of the room. While Lex
continues in the Café to rage about how selfish Tai-San
is, he himself coughs... Lex has the virus.
Zandra tends to Lex in their room - Lingerie. Ryan brings
in the Antidote samples, which Jack has established does no
harm to a rat.
Lex refuses to take the 'Antidote', until he knows what it
is. Zandra orders Ryan out of the room. It turns out that
Tai-San has the 'flu, nothing more. |

Lex
chooses a spiritual path, as recommended by Tai-San - Ep.44-50 |
Lex knows that soon he will die. Even Lex has
a conscience, and he is weighed down by memories of everyone
he has hurt and used. He starts to make amends, beginning
with Ryan.
While Lex is apologizing for the way he has mistreated him,
Ryan suggests Tai-San's methods.
Lex visits Tai-San. Her way is not easy, and requires total
honesty. Lex is willing to do whatever it takes.
Lex begins by burning his clothes, for they represent the
old Lex. Zandra is horrified and loses all respect for him.
Lex visits Jack in the workshop. He knows he acted like a
playground bully, pushing the science geek around. Jack is
not amused. He's been working 24/7 on the Antidote. And now
Lex doesn't want it.
Lex visits Trudy, but succeeds in annoying her too. She needs
someone to test the 'Antidote', before even considering giving
it to Brady. And Lex refuses.
Lex apologizes to Patsy and Cloe for killing and eating their
chicken. They forgive him.
Finally Lex makes his peace with Zandra. He admits he married
her for sex, and isn't totally sure he loves her. Zandra orders
him out!
Then in front of everyone, Lex puts himself on trial, and
confesses to framing Bray and plotting to have him and Amber
thrown out. He apologizes to everyone and leaves the Mall
to find the meaning of life (whatever) in exile. |
|
|
While Bray, Amber, Lex and Dal were at Hope Island,
KC was getting up to some serious mischief at the casino, trading
Jack's batteries and Cloe's pig Porky for gambling chips. This was
a dangerous thing to do, because the casino is run by Tribe Circus,
and they became extremely interested in where he obtained these
items, and what tribe he belongs to. Their leader, Top-Hat is a
psycho. Cloe escaped with Porky, but KC wasn't so lucky. Top-Hat
himself interrogates KC and makes him spill. Cloe alerts Bray to
the very real threat of an invasion by Tribe Circus. |
Lex
begins his spiritual journey in exile, and finds out about KC -
Ep.45 |
Lex passes his first night in a storeshed, only to
be woken by a 17-year old who hangs out there. He's not as far advanced
as Glen was, but Lex glimpses his own imminent future.
Lex needs to find KC, just in case he's in trouble. He meets a trader
selling fake antidote. Lex physically forces the trader to reveal
where the gambling den is, then smashes all the bottles. |
|
|
Lex finds the casino near the train station,
just as the trader described. But when he inquires after KC
the door staff become violent!
While Lex looks for another way in, he observes Top-Hat pulling
up on his motorbike.
Lex awaits further developments. Before long Top-Hat comes
back out, and with KC in tow. KC is forced to lead the way
to the Mall.
Lex knows that sooner or later, Tribe Circus will trash the
Mall. He must try and help. Perhaps Ebony would be interested? |
|
|
Lex
seeks help from Ebony - Ep.45-47 |
|
|
Lex manages to persuade the Loco at the door
to allow him in to see Ebony. He is roughly escorted by two
guards.
Ebony hasn't forgotten, nor forgiven Lex for the riot he started
at the Tribal Gathering. She not only refuses to help the
Mallrats, she has Lex placed under guard.
Meanwhile Top-Hat has arrived at the Mall and forces KC to
show him the way in through the sewers. |
|
|
Lex ages rapidly. When a guard brings him his next
meal (bread and water) he is so shocked that he drops the tray and
runs, leaving the door open.
Lex finds Ebony by the pool and corners her. The guards won't help
her for fear of becoming infected. With the real possibility that
Lex has infected her, she listens to his offer. He tells her about
the Antidote kept at the Mall. Reason enough to save the Mallrats
from Tribe Circus in order to get it. |
Ebony
Rescues the Mallrats, but at a price - Ep.47 |
|
|
When the Locos get to the Mall they find the
Mallrats locked in between the two grilles, and a fire raging
in the Mall just outside the inner grille. They quickly extinguish
the fire to whoops of joy - joy that gives way to fear when
they see how rapidly Lex has aged.
Lex rests in Lingerie, the room he shared with Zandra after
their wedding. She has nothing but contempt for him, and orders
him to leave her room.
Ebony demands the Antidote from Hope Island, backed up by
threats, beginning with Dal. Jack realizes they are beaten
and takes Ebony to where he hid it in the Magazine store.
Amber makes a valiant attempt to snatch it back and to destroy
it even, but when Bray is suspended over the balcony, even
Amber gives up.
Ebony intends to use Lex as her guinea pig to test the Antidote.
She makes him swallow the first dose straight away. Ebony
returns to the Hotel with the Antidote, Lex to test it on,
and Bray, probably just to spite Amber.
|
|
|
|
|
At the Hotel, Ebony channels all the charm and seduction
techniques she knows onto Bray, without effect. He loves Amber,
and hates Ebony too much.
Meanwhile, despite the Antidote forcibly administered, Lex continues
to age. Then he repeats the same trick, escaping when a guard runs
in shock after Lex exhales in his face. Cornering Ebony by the pool
he leans over her.
Then he spots the box of Antidote and resigns as Ebony's guinea
pig. He empties the vials one by one into the pool.
Ebony now has no further use for him, and the following day has
him thrown out onto the street. |
Return
to the Mall - Ep.49 |
|
|
On the street, Lex sees 'Old people' everywhere,
being attacked and killed by Locos. His best chance of survival
is to look like a Loco.
Lex plays dead and waits. Before long a Loco spots him and
starts to search him for anything valuable. Lex throttles
him and dons the Loco outfit! |
|
|
On his way in through the sewers, Lex sets off a tripwire
that releases an avalanche of gas cylinders. Ryan and Dal investigate
and find Lex, looking like a Loco. At first Zandra refuses to go
near him. But who else is there to take care of him in his last
days? Zandra relents and takes care of him in Lingerie, her room.
She tells him about the baby - his baby. Lex wants a boy, to grow
up just like him! |
|
|
Lex regains his appetite enough to eat something.
All the more remarkable when all the Mallrats have left is
something that looks like mashed potato - or porridge. Lex
keeps his face hidden under his hair, but Zandra catches a
glimpse.
Against all hope, Lex is definitely getting better. |
|
|
Jack and Dal have been searching the Hope Island computer
files for anything that might be connected with making the Antidote.
They suddenly realized that a code number, repeated again and again,
together with the word Eagle, must be a map reference. On
a map they find Eagle Mountain at precisely that location. Jack
is adamant they must go there, 20 or 30 miles away, even though
he has no idea what they might find there. No one else at the Mall
is willing to risk a pointless journey - until Tai-San tells everyone
about her dream, about a Mountain, and an Eagle. |
Eagle
Mountain - Ep.51-52 |
Despite having confessed to keeping a water stash,
and using it to frame Bray, it looks like he still has it. Food
also, on the top shelf. But this is for Zandra (who is pregnant)
he tells Ryan, for the journey.
Lex has a score to settle with Top-Hat. KC has already told Lex
how he saved Zandra from being raped. So when the Mallrats are on
their way out of the City, he and Ryan head off somewhere. They
return with Top-Hat's motorbike - and his famous hat!
For a mile or two Lex gives Zandra a ride. Lex is forced to abandon
it when the tank is empty, and walk like everyone else. |
|
|
Just outside the City the Mallrats encounter
a manned barricade across the road. It's there to stop people
with the virus fleeing the City and spreading it.
Back at the Hotel, Spike has led a rebellion against Ebony.
She is no longer Queen of the Locos, and was forced to flee,
aided by Bray.
Bray and Ebony went first to the Mall but found it deserted.
They found a message left by Trudy.
Ebony just happens to have a secret bus, for emergencies just
like this one. With Bray driving, they soon catch up with
the Mallrats. With everyone on board, Bray drives the bus
straight through the barricade. |
|
|
But the bus is old, and hasn't been serviced
in ages. Before long it breaks down and everyone takes a rest
while Dal tries to fix it.
Lex tells how he and Ryan battled tribe Circus. He's a good
storyteller, if not a very honest one.
Dal is unable to repair the bus, and the Mallrats must complete
the journey on foot, with guidance mostly from Tai-San. |
|
|
|
|
Eventually of course, after climbing hills and valleys,
they get there? But what is it? It's a satellite tracking station
- but how does that help the Mallrats?
Many of the Mallrats see this as the end of the Road. Lex and Zandra
announce their decision to go their separate way. KC asks to go
along too.
Amber suddenly realizes that Bray has already gone without a word.
She has been giving him the cold shoulder throughout the journey
without explaining why. She believes that while Bray was held hostage
by Ebony, he cheated on her, and the footage brought back by Ryan
and Dal, obtained by means of a model helicopter flown over the
Hotel, only seemed to confirm it.
Yet even now, Amber cannot just let Bray walk out of her life forever.
She runs out to find him. And Lex follows, because he is the only
one who understands both sides of the story. He is the only one
who sees the big picture. |
|
|
Amber |
|
So...what?.....Were
you just going to leave without a word? |
Bray |
|
I thought
it would be easier this way. |
Amber |
|
Yeh, well
you would wouldn't you? You always found it easier to run. |
Bray |
|
If you feel
that strongly, Amber, why did you come after me? |
Lex |
|
Because she's crazy about you;
isn't that obvious? |
Amber |
|
You just
keep out of it - it's nothing to do with you |
Lex |
|
Maybe not. But then again, I've
never taken your advice, Amber. Why start now? Look, I don't
know why you think he's in love with Ebony. It's stupid. You're
wrong. You're so wrong it's not even funny! |
|
|
Amber |
|
Oh, I get
it. Boys in it together. He helped you out in there, so you're
returning the favor? |
Lex |
|
Look why don't we just quit messing
about now. Look at him. Why is he here? Have you asked yourself
that? If he wanted to run off with Ebony, why did he come
back here and rescue us? Because he loves you, dummy; and
you love him. That's your cue to kiss her. Do I have to tell
you how to do everything? |
Bray |
|
I've never
really listened to him before either |
Amber |
|
Nor me |
|
They take his advice.... |
|
