Bray, Lex, Jack and Dal take a cart-load of batteries
to the nearest farm to trade for fresh food. This will be for
Zandra and the girls, a real banquet to celebrate getting married
tomorrow. Alice drives a hard bargain and they shake hands on
the deal, followed by a drink of farm cider to finish. It's
good stuff, and Lex wants some to take back. The price is high.
With nothing else to trade, Lex's hands over his favorite CD!
That night, while the girls sit round a table for a civilized
meal, the boys drink cider, and become a bit wild. In a rollerblade
race round the Mall, KC collides with Jack, breaking his leg. |
|
|
|
|
It's the morning after the night before. Jack
is in agony with a broken leg. KC has a really sore head and
a queasy stomach. He tries to eat some breakfast but it all
comes back up again. The girls aren't at all sympathetic. |
|
|
Apart from a hitch when Zandra mislays her necklace
[see Salene's story] the wedding goes ahead according to plan,
and everyone is happy.
The same is not true the following day. Ryan and Salene have
left the Mall. Amber and Sasha take time out on the beach for
a few days. Jack's leg is broken, Lex has reverted to his former,
nasty, shouting bullying self.
KC has a hangover again. The girls find him in the Café
looking very unwell. Patsy's mischievous mention of a "greasy
sausage" for breakfast makes him throw up. |
|
|
|
|
Tai-San verifies that Jack's leg is broken. Before
applying a splint she rubs the area with ointment made from
comfry leaves. It stinks! and KC throws up again. |

KC
learns to Cook - Ep.33-34 |
|
|
Despite being laid up in bed with a broken leg,
Jack insists he must be able to get around to check out the
water filtration and security systems. Therefore, he says, Dal
and KC must make him a "vehicle".
It's Dal's idea, a kind of sedan chair. Jack isn't sure it will
work, but before they can test it Lex calls out for Ryan (who
left the Mall after the wedding and is now miles away). KC drops
everything and heads for the Lingerie store to see what Lex
needs, leaving Jack and Dal in a predicament. |
|
|
|
|
Lex instructs KC in the art of opening beans,
then tossing the empty can across the café that Trudy
has just cleaned.
But Lex wants more than beans for his bride, and asks KC to
select something else from the food store.
KC holds out a can to Lex, unable to
read the label; he is privileged to learn Lex's secret - he
can't read either! Lex opens it, whatever it is. KC then decides
to practice juggling (like Sasha) with the eggs, and makes a
mess on Trudy's floor. Oops! Lex just laughs.
Having made a mess of the café, Lex
takes the cooked breakfast back to his bride. |
|
|
|
|
KC gets back to Jack and Dal in the workshop. Jack has
been sitting in the chair all this time and is not pleased. When they
test the chair, the arms come away with the poles. Jack nor KC are
impressed by Dal's "bright idea", and KC heads off to do
something more useful. |
|
|
Jack calls out in pain, demanding his next dose
of painkillers. Dal is already giving Jack the maximum dose
but it's not really enough. KC pockets a bottle of "heavy
duty sleeping pills" when Dal isn't looking, before offering
to take to Jack his next dose of pain killers.
Some time later Dal notices that Jack is unusually quiet. He
and KC discover why! KC smugly brings out a deck of cards...
time for a game of poker! |
|
|
Soon after the wedding KC moves into the Boutique,
sleeping on the red couch that Ryan had for so long.
Ryan himself leaves the Mall immediately after the wedding, and by
chance finds Salene, a virtual prisoner at Dirk and Roanne's trading
post. Having rescued her they both return to the Mall, sleeping in
the same rooms as before, though Ryan moves up a step, taking Lex's
old bed. KC and Ryan are now roommates. |
KC
helps Lex Frame Bray - Ep.38-40 |
When Amber was away with Sasha it seemed the Mallrats
were about to fall apart. In the end she chose to stay with the tribe,
but her heart remained with Sasha, and she would sit by herself for
hours on end, remembering and dreaming of what might have been.
Bray has been filling in for Amber for the last 10 days, running things
the way she would want. The way Lex sees it, Bray has become too powerful.
He wants Amber's job himself, and to get rid of Bray. |
It's Patsy's birthday. A happy day turns miserable
when she realizes she is one year nearer to getting the Virus
that killed the adults.
Bray wants to lighten things up a bit, both the people and the
Mall itself. Handing out pots of paint and brushes, he leads
the way, painting a mural where the stairs divide.
Lex seizes his chance. He starts a paint fight. It's great fun
and everyone lets off steam. But for Lex this is simply a diversion
while KC plants bottles of water in Bray's room. After the paint
fight KC arranges for Cloe to "find" them there, then
persuades her to report it. Lex milks the situation to the max. |
|
|
Trudy and Tai-San persuade Amber to hold a proper
trial. Otherwise Lex will simply bully everyone into supporting
his move to get rid of Bray.
Behind the scenes Lex uses every dirty trick imaginable to silence
anyone who might support Bray, including Jack.
The Trial doesn't go well. Bray throws in the towel half way
through and gets ready to leave the tribe.
Jack comes forward just in time, despite Lex's threat to break
his other leg. He's about to reveal the truth where the water
came from when KC cuts him short and confesses to everything. |
|
|
|
|
Bray knows Lex is bound to be behind it and suggests
putting the real criminal KC on trial - how would Lex feel about
that?
Court proceedings come to a very sudden halt when Patsy brings
in the adult she has found. Strangely, the adult recognizes
Lex and collapses in his arms to the floor. It's Glen. |
|
|
|
|
It doesn't take long for Amber to work out that
Glen has the virus. The Mallrats put him in the cage to isolate
him. Patsy and Lex will also need to be quarantined. Patsy is
very upset, and angry at Glen for keeping up the pretense that
he was an adult.
KC lies low, taking in the present situation. Not only might
he be thrown out for framing Bray, he is also in danger of getting
the virus inside the Mall.
KC packs his few things and without telling anyone leaves the
Mall. |
|
|
KC soon discovers that things aren't any safer
outside than inside the Mall. The virus is back, and 'Old People'
are everywhere, being stoned to death by the Locos.
KC legs it back to the Mall. Emerging from the green door to
the sewers he hears strange kind of grunting. And there in one
of the storerooms KC makes a discovery - a pig! Pork for dinner!
This will surely get him into Amber's good books.
But the pig is Salene's. She and Ryan found it on their way back
to the Mall. KC protests, he found it, but he cannot explain
why Ryan's belt is round its neck! The pig gets the last laugh
by peeing all over him. |

KC
has hidden talents - Ep.41 |
Bray and Amber are determined not to let the virus
beat them. Two teams will try to gather information on how it
started. Lex and Dal will search the local offices of a national
Newspaper, while Bray and Amber head for the government Health
Minister's office, taking KC with them to keep him out of trouble.
Despite being ultra careful, the three Mallrats run into a bunch
of Locos ahead of them. Turning to escape, another bunch closes
in behind them. They are trapped.
KC shows his amazing talent for inventing colorful stories on
the spot. |

[sneezes] Sneezing
is one of the earliest symptoms, but you'd know that. Remember Glen?
He was one of you. We found him, looked after him, buried him yesterday.
The virus. Touching us - even getting too close - well, I wouldn't

Despite a thorough search, they don't find anything
that's relevant. KC tries to open a filing cabinet but the lock
is too tough to crack even for him. Among some shredded remains
Amber finds part of a secret document. It is headed "Hope
Island Project (Pandorax)." Hope Island was once a
prison colony not too far away in the bay. They have never heard
of Pandorax.
The three call it a day and go home. |
|
|
When they get back to the Mall, Glen has already died.
They burn his body on some open ground.
In the evening the two teams compare notes. Both have seen references
to the Pandorax company. Jack puts it all together: The Pandorax
company on Hope Island was working on an anti-aging project that went
wrong, and a virus they were using that killed all the adults has
now mutated and affects everyone regardless of age. If they are to
get answers, Hope Island is the best place to start - and maybe they
might also find an antidote there. |
Bray speaks to everyone about what they have learned,
and why a trip to Hope Island would seem to be their next step.
KC makes fun of Zandra who fears the place is haunted.
It is decided that all three leaders (Bray, Amber and Lex) should
go, plus Dal to access the computer systems, and Bob. |
