Zandra's
Wedding and the disappearance of Paul - Ep.17 |
Zandra has taken Tai-San's advice and talked Lex
into marrying her. Bray returns in time for the wedding. Cloe
and Patsy are her bridesmaids; Paul also has a role as pageboy,
but Patsy cannot find him. Zandra wants to proceed without him.
Suddenly she spots Ebony in the Mall and screams. It turns out
that Ebony has followed Bray, thinking she might learn what
happened to Zoot.
The wedding is called of, and as for Paul, he is never seen
again. Patsy is terribly upset, and largely blames Lex, suspecting
that his mistreatment of "the deafo" caused Paul to
leave. |
|
|
|
|
Although Ebony is captured and put in the cage, Lex
unwittingly allows her to escape, and the fear is she will return
with the Locos to trash the place. Cloe and Patsy help Jack to get
ready for an attack. In the meantime Bray makes a secret deal with
Ebony. |
Trudy
& Dal leave - Ep.20 |
At the end of Ep.20 Trudy takes an overdose. Fortunately
Bray finds her in time and she pulls through. At the end of
Ep.22 she and Dal slip out of the Mall at Dawn, leaving a note
behind with Brady. Cloe is the first to realize Trudy has gone
and takes the note to Amber.
The Mallrats don't know it yet, but there's an intruder in the
Mall. Before long Lex catches him thieving. Instead of punishing
him, he becomes a Mallrat! He is KC.
Otherwise, life goes on. Cloe helps Salene with Brady, and Amber
gives the girls reading lessons. |
|
|
In Ep.25 Trudy returns to the Mall with a new perspective
on life and about herself. She brings news of an upcoming Tribal Gathering
that is being organized by Ebony. Bad news for Jack: Dal has chosen
to stay with the Nomads, a tribe that Trudy and he hooked up with. |
|
|
Patsy and Cloe play hide-&-seek in the Service
area, but it's boring with only 2 people. For Patsy it's a sad
reminder that Paul used to be number 3. KC takes the initiative
in making friends.
Later KC pretends to be a Loco, in hot (and noisy) pursuit of
a couple of strays. Even Trudy is amused, though she reminds
them that Brady is trying to sleep. |
|
|
The
Tribal Gathering- Ep.28-29 |
When Trudy brought news of the Tribal Gathering, Bray
and Amber jumped at the real possibility to make peace among the tribes.
It is part carnival, and part trading market. Bray has high hopes
that Jack's wind turbine, and it's promise of providing unlimited
power to recharge batteries, will place the Mallrats in a strong trading
position. All the Mallrats are here, other than Salene, Trudy and
Patsy, who are stayed behind to look after Brady. Almost as soon as
they arrive a girl grabs Cloe's arms. She is convinced she knows where
the adults are. Bray explains that losing your parents sometimes did
that, made some of the kids crazy. |
|
|
Things go wrong for the Mallrats right from the
start. KC spots Dal, and instead of being happy as Trudy described,
Dal is in fact destined for the slave market. Then Jack discovers
that some vital copper wire from his wind turbine has been cut
- back at the Mall. Plus Lex is ambushed and badly beaten up
by Glen and some Locos.
Just when it seems things can't get worse, Amber loses a wager
with Ebony and becomes a slave herself, along with Dal. |
|
|
|
|
Jack spots his missing copper wire wrapped round
Zandra's finger. This was how Lex provided her with a wedding
ring. When she finally prizes it off her finger, it whizzes
through the air into rock cavity.
Cloe's long, slender fingers retrieve the wire, but by now it's
too late. Glen's deadline for a demonstration has past, and
he smashes Jack's machine.
Lex and Ryan take the law into their own hands. While Lex starts
an intertribal riot, Ryan frees the slaves. These include Sasha,
an entertainer Dal met while with the Nomads, and now chained
to him. The Mallrats are lucky to escape back to the Mall. |
|
|
Sasha is an entertainer, loved by everyone except Bray,
who regards him as a waste of space and a rival for Amber, not that
Bray has ever told her how he feels.
Sasha works mostly with the kids, teaching them a little about music,
drama and entertainment in general. |
|
|
KC, Patsy and Cloe perform their well-rehearsed
cheerleader-style chant in praise of The Mallrats.
Sasha might be making the kids happy, but Bray is driven insane
with jealousy. What's more, Salene feels redundant. She used
to entertain the kids, including piano lessons. Salene resorts
to a binge in the sewers for comfort. |
|
|
In Ep.33 Lex and Zandra gets married. Following the
wedding Sasha and Amber take time out on the beach for a few days,
Salene leaves the Mall to find food at Roanne's trading post; and
Ryan leaves the Mall, intending never to return. Jack has a broken
leg and Bray is in a permanent sulk over Sasha and Amber. Lex reverts
to nasty, bullying Lex like never before. Trudy does her best to keep
the place clean but it's a losing battle, and Tai-San is no help. |
Trudy is at the end of her tether. It seems whenever
she manages to get Brady off to sleep Lex starts shouting again,
calling for room service from Ryan, who is no longer even at
the Mall.
The happy Mallrat family is falling apart. The Mall where the
girls once felt so safe, wanted and loved has become a fearful
place. Patsy tries to comfort a tearful Cloe "Don't cry
Cloe. There'll be somewhere else else for us, you'll see." |
|
|
|
|
Next morning there's no one to make breakfast
for the girls, and they are hungry. They find Trudy in the Café
doing her best to clear the mess. She promises to make breakfast
if only they would help her first. Tai-San makes an appearance,
but not to help Trudy. Instead she takes the girls away to do
some "energy clearing."
It's the same story next day. They leave the Café without
breakfast and ask Tai-San. Tai-San doesn't believe in breakfast
and shows them a New-Age spiritual alternative.
After some time the 2 girls are still hungry. Without a word
they both stand, leave the Pharmacy, and head for the chickens
in hope of finding some eggs. |
|
|
|
|
When Amber and Sasha get back it's not a moment too
soon. Cloe has a tale of woe to tell. When they went to check on the
chickens, there was no sign of Henrietta, just a handful of feathers.
Amber takes them to the Café for a hot drink. She then explains
she has only come back to say good-bye. She and Sasha have decided
to leave the Mallrats and make their own life together. |
|
|
Cloe and Patsy are distraught and turn to Lex.
Maybe he will persuade Amber to stay? The sight that greets
them fills them with horror. Now they know what happened to
Henrietta.
Everyone watches Amber and Sasha go. Patsy fights to hold the
tears back. |
|
|
Once outside, Amber cannot actually bring herself to
forsake the tribe, to leave everyone who needs her at the mercy of
people like Lex. Kissing Sasha one last time, Amber turns back, sorrowful,
back toward the Mall, a concrete prison compared with the life she
might have had with the boy she loved. |
|
|
Today is Patsy's birthday, and everyone wants
to make it special for her. Cloe won't allow anyone into the
Café for breakfast unless they have a present for Patsy.
She lets Jack off with a promise of providing music for the
party. When the Birthday Girl arrives she is so thrilled and
happy. Zandra takes her away to give her a makeover. |
|
|
Patsy's mood suddenly changes when it's time
blow out the candle and cut the cake. Cloe guesses it's because
Paul isn't there, but it's not that. Patsy is upset because
she is growing old - one year nearer to dying from the Virus. |
|
|
|
|
What promised to be a day of fun has turned into mope-around
day. Amber's answer is to get stuck into the normal routine of chores.
Bray sees some logic in that, but Lex (backed up by KC) objects in
no uncertain terms, that is frankly a challenge to Amber's position
as leader, and to Bray's role, standing in for her. When a fight seems
likely, Cloe picks the Roster off the floor, to ask Bray what her
chores are. The effect is dramatic. Cloe's simple act defuses the
situation, and demonstrates that people like Cloe still look to Bray
as Leader, not to Lex. |
|
|
|
Jack wakes everyone during the night to show
CCTV footage of what he believes is an adult. The playback is
terrible, and only Patsy believes Jack really saw an adult.
At dawn she heads out with Bob to track the adult down. |
|
Lex
and KC Frame Bray - Ep.38-39 |
|
|
Bray's alternative to chores is to give the Mall
a makeover. Handing out brushes and pots of paint, everyone
gets to work. What's more, it's fun. Lex has an idea, to start
a paint fight. This is even more fun! But Lex has a hidden agenda,
worked out beforehand with KC. With everyone occupied, KC sneaks
away to plant bottles of water in Bray's room. Then he persuades
Cloe to do some dusting. She is so surprised to discover that
Bray has been stealing water. Lex insists on putting Bray on
trial. Amber is determined to uncover the real truth. Cloe is
of course the main witness. At last, when Jack is prepared to
expose Lex, KC confesses to everything. But then the entire
proceedings come to an abrupt halt when Patsy walks in with
the "adult." |
