Trudy
& Dal leave the Mall. Salene gets to look after Brady - Ep.23 |
At the end of Ep.22 Dal and Trudy leave the Mall, with
a note of explanation left near Brady. Bray is, if anything, relieved
she has gone. Salene is more than happy to look after Brady, with
a little help from Patsy and Cloe.
With Trudy gone, Bray at last feels free to see Salene. But she no
longer wants to see him, still feeling too guilty about leaving Trudy
to die.
Salene even talks to Amber about it. Amber relays the message to Bray
an hour later: Salene doesn't want to be his girlfriend. |
|
|
Trudy returns to the Mall a much humbler and wiser
person, determined to face her responsibilities and to establish
friendships. More than anything she wants her baby. Her time
away allowed her to understand her role as a mother.
Salene had really started to bond with Brady. Nevertheless she
voluntarily brings Brady to Trudy and hands her back. It is
a moment of profound and mixed emotions for Trudy.
Trudy admits that she was a lousy mom. Salene forgives willingly,
for she has seen inside herself, and doesn't like what she saw. |
|
|
|
|
Salene's guilt grows stronger. She's now off her
food and lies on her bed most of the time. She lies to Amber
that she is upset because Dal didn't come back. Amber hopes
she can come to a meeting she has called in the Café.
It's about the upcoming Tribal Gathering Trudy knows about.
After the meeting, Trudy sits with Salene. She's really worried
that she isn't eating, and there's even talk she might have
the Virus. Trudy really wants to be her friend and admits that
she has been really horrible to her.
Salene holds back, wracked by her own guilt. |
|
|
Brought on by feeling so bad about herself, and other
factors like having to give Brady back to Trudy, Salene suffers a
series of Bulimia attacks. These necessarily mean stealing food, and
before long Amber has to face the fact that one of the Mallrats is
a food thief. Worse than that, Salene resorts to stealing possessions
to trade for food outside. Mistrust within the tribe threatens to
break it apart. |
With Trudy gone, Bray has tried to go with Salene, but
in the event she has rejected his advances out of guilt. Instead,
Bray now seems drawn toward Amber. Salene doesn't seem happy about
this either. Other people have moved on, happy, whilst she has not
and is not. Food is to become a temporary release. Then when she has
had her fill, disgust takes over and she will head for the sewers
to throw up. Most often she will binge down there too. |
Most of the Mallrats have gone to the Tribal Gathering.
Salene and Patsy have stayed behind to help Trudy with Brady.
Patsy volunteers to go with Trudy when Brady cries for attention,
leaving Salene to be miserable on her own.
Patsy later finds her in the sewers throwing up. Salene makes
Patsy promise to keep it a secret, but Patsy is so worried about
the Virus she tells Trudy about it anyway. |

|
|
When Trudy tries to help, Salene is at first defensive
and aggressive. Trudy persists and tries again, guessing Salene
has morning sickness, and there are no hard feelings if she
is pregnant with Bray's child.
Salene explains how when she feels bad about herself, Bulimia
takes control of her life.
Their heart-to-heart honest chat comes to an end when the rest
of the tribe comes back from the Tribal Gathering. They are
in somber mood, since instead of promoting peace between tribes
as intended, they actually helped to spark off a riot. Something
good came out of it, they brought back Dal, and chained to him,
fellow slave Sasha. |
|
|
Sasha had become a slave of the Nomads along with Dal,
to be sold at the Tribal Gathering. Ryan succeeded in freeing them,
along with Amber who had lost a deal with Ebony and also become a
slave.
Sasha seems imbued with magical charms; Amber certainly falls for
him, and Bray becomes insanely jealous. Lex and Zandra's Wedding is
back on schedule. Everyone seems happy again, except Salene. Patsy
and Cloe want to be with Sasha now, not Salene. He's such fun, teaching
them music and songs. Amber starts to notice food going missing, and
pleads for the guilty person to own up. Lex and Ryan conduct a room
search but find nothing. Salene promises Trudy it won't happen again.
Except it does. Trudy feels guilty herself, because she knows it's
Salene, but for now she cannot betray confidence and tell Amber. Salene
herself is too ashamed to tell Amber herself. Amber resorts to putting
a large padlock on the foodstore door. |

Salene
steals Zandra's Necklace - Ep.32-33 |
|
|
If Salene can't steal from the food store, she
must try some place else. One afternoon she follows Bray to
a trading post, waits for him to leave, then tries to make her
own deal. Big problem: she has nothing to trade. Roanne takes
pity on her, and gives her a bag of food. But next time,
she must have something to trade.
Back in the Mall sewers, Salene hardly gets to eat any of Roanne's
food. Jack and Dal need help carrying batteries taken from cars
in the streets back to the Mall for charging. When Salene eventually
gets back to her food, the rats have eaten it all. |
|
|
|
|
It's the day before Zandra's wedding. She shows
Trudy and Salene her wedding dress and a special necklace worn
by her mother at her wedding, and by her grandmother before
her; it's real diamonds. Salene thinks food, and goes
back later to steal it.
In the evening the girls celebrate with a special meal in Zandra's
honor. Salene eats and eats and eats, and still wants more.
Trudy is worried. Zandra has no idea that Salene has stolen
her necklace.
The following morning, the day of the wedding, Salene takes
it to Roanne. But the diamonds are fake, glass, and of no value.
Salene returns to the Mall to find Zandra in tears. Sneaking
up the stairs she leaves the necklace to be found then hides. |
|
|
|
|
All's well that ends well. The wedding goes ahead and
everyone is happy - except Salene. Patsy has already made the link
between the stolen food and the necklace going missing. |
Salene
finds 'employment' with Roanne - Ep.33-36 |
|
|
Next morning Trudy stares down from the balcony;
the Mall is still trashed from yesterday's party. Amid the chaos,
Salene rummages for leftovers. Trudy leaves her to binge, Salene
would only turn aggressive.
In the sewers, Salene has sunk to an all-time low. Amber and
Sasha pass by without noticing, they are so happy in each other's
company. She has no one.
With nothing to trade she sets off for Roanne's. Roanne again
takes pity on her, takes her in and feeds her, then lets her
sleep. But there's a catch: Salene is not allowed to leave. |
|
|
|
|
By chance Ryan finds himself lost in these parts.
He left the Mall soon after the wedding, now that Zandra can
never be his.
Dirk and Roanne welcome him, they have just what a lonely man
needs...
Sal knows what is expected of her. Dirk and Roanne have made
that very clear. There's a guy waiting outside and she must
be 'very nice' to him.
It's hard to know who is the more surprised, Ryan or Salene.
Salene is resigned to playing her part, and if it will help,
she suggests Ryan should think of Zandra. |
|
|
|
|
Ryan is totally confused. He doesn't understand
what this place really is. But if Salene wants to escape, he
is more than willing to help her.
He first secures the door by dragging the bed against it. Then
he smashes the window bars with a chair before they both climb
through. Dirk's people give chase, all the way to the railyard,
but when the Locos Police car cruises by, Dirk and his men run,
while Ryan and Salene lie low in one of the rail cars.
Salene tells him why she stole the food. He wants to help her
overcome this 'Bulmania', and to look out for each other. They
decide to return to the Mall. |
|
|
|
|
When they get back to the Mall, it is utterly
filthy. Trudy had tried her best, but Lex and KC have the ability
to trash the place faster than Trudy can clean it. To make matters
worse, Amber has decided to leave with Sasha, and is saying
her last good-byes. Salene owns up to stealing all the food.
When Trudy explains that Salene isn't well, but suffers from
Bulimia, most everyone is understanding. Lex thinks perhaps
she should be thrown out, but since he has just killed and eaten
Cloe's pet chicken, Amber advises him to keep quiet.
Amber parts with a goodwill hug for Salene then makes her way
with Sasha to the sewers for the last time. |
|
|
But when it comes to it, Amber cannot leave her tribe.
They need her. So despite being madly in love with Sasha, she kisses
him for the last time and orders him to leave without her. |
