Since kissing Sasha good-bye, Amber has spent most
of her time alone, keeping contact with everyone else to a minimum.
This was ten days ago. Today is Patsy's birthday, and everyone wants
to make it special for her. Amber sours the day when she arrives,
rather out of place amid the festive mood, to put up her latest chores
roster. Amber didn't know it was Patsy's birthday, but Lex takes the
opportunity to start badmouthing her. Ryan restores some semblance
of party atmosphere with a one-liner. Zandra takes Patsy away to give
her a makeover. |
When Zandra brings her back Trudy remarks that
she looks like a Princess. Then it's party time. There's music,
and games, and musical chairs. Jack wins despite hobbling round
with a crutch, thanks to Bray 'fixing' the music stops.
Then Trudy brings in the cake and it's time for Patsy to blow
out the candle. Most unexpectedly Patsy becomes very disturbed,
hurling the candle across the Mall.
Cloe guesses Patsy is upset because Paul isn't there with her.
But it's not that. Patsy is upset because she is one year older.
One year nearer to being killed by the Virus that wiped out
the adults. |
|
|
|
|
Amber's answer to take their minds off all thought
of growing old and dying is to do chores. This is the last thing Patsy
wants and she tells Amber so in no uncertain terms. |
|
|
Meanwhile, Salene has made off with Patsy's birthday
cake to the sewers, where she will eat it all, then throw up.
Such is the relentless cycle of Bulimia. |
|
|
Jack and Dal have recently installed a CCTV camera
overlooking the loading bay outside the Mall. The picture quality
is dreadful, black and white, and more like a snow storm. When
Jack reviews the footage at the end of the day he is surprised
to see what looks like an old man - an adult! |
|
|
|
|
Jack wakes everyone at 1 am to tell them the
news. The VCR playback is even worse now than before and everyone
goes back to bed. Only Patsy believes in what Jack saw. After
all, her birthday wish was that her parents might come back
and show them all what to do. Amber is "skeptical".
In fact she didn't even bother to watch Jack's tape at all. |
|
|
The following morning, Patsy sets out with Bob
without telling anyone. She is determined to find Jack's adult,
no matter what. |
|
|
In the meantime, back at the Mall, Lex and KC
set Bray up, framing him for stealing water. KC also arranges
for poor Cloe to be the one who finds the water in Bray's room
("Headspace"). Lex's plan is to have Bray thrown out
of the Tribe. After Bray, then Amber. Trudy and Tai-San persuade
Amber to come out of seclusion, and back into everyday life.
For unless she takes the case on, Lex will win and Bray will
be forced to leave for something he didn't do. |
|
|
|
|
Patsy tracks down her 'Adult' and invites him
back to the Mall. On the way back they see more adults, but
these are being driven away and stoned by the Locos.
Bray's trial has reached a crucial point. Jack is about to reveal
that it was really Lex who planted the water in Bray's room,
when KC admits full responsibility to protect Lex. Bray suggests
that KC should now be put on trial.
Patsy walks in with her adult, who is none other than Glen.
He collapses to the floor in Lex's arms. All thought of continuing
the court proceedings are forgotten. |
|
|
|
|
Amber soon works out that Glen has the virus,
and that both Patsy and Lex must both be isolated from everyone
else to prevent spread of infection.
Patsy is angry with Glenn. She thought he was a genuine adult.
Why didn't he warn her that he had the virus? Glen simply admits
that her invitation back to a nice warm Mall was too good to
refuse. |
|
|
|
|
Patsy's only friend in quarantine will be her
teddybear. Then Ryan pulls a makeshift door to seal off the
Leather store. Lex is also isolated in Lingerie, next to the
Leather store.
Ryan and Salene make a welcome return to the Mall. They haven't
been seen since Zandra's wedding. On the way back they have
found a stray piglet and it becomes the Mall's latest Pet. Cloe
shows her to Patsy, then they 'touch hands' on either side of
the curved window. |
|
|
The Virus has suddenly become a real and present threat,
no longer just something that happened to the adults in the recent
past. Amber and Bray take the initiative. The Mallrats will search
for information about how the Virus started. |
Breaking
Quarantine - Ep.40 |
The Mallrats are a little shocked when Cloe appears
on the balcony with Patsy and hugs her. Cloe's explanation is simple.
She loves Patsy so much she can't get along without her. If she has
the Virus, then she wants to have it too. Salene joins them. She agrees
with Cloe, this is not a problem they can shut away in quarantine.
They must face it together. Salene brings the two girls down and everyone
hugs Patsy. |
Following Cloe's lead, Zandra brings Lex to the
balcony, and KC takes it from there. The Mallrats form a circle.
The infighting that was threatening to break the Tribe apart
has given way to a spirit of unity, their vision now set on
beating the Virus. This all came about because Patsy went to
find Jack's 'Adult'. |
|
|
Lex, Dal, Bray, Amber and KC search the local
newspaper office and the government health ministry between
them. The information they bring back will lead them to a top-secret
project that was taking place on Hope Island. Even while they
are away, Glen dies. Tai-San takes Patsy and Cloe aside to break
the sad news.
The Mallrats cremate Glen's body. Patsy is still terribly upset,
and really scared. |
|
|
|
|
Bray, Amber, Lex and Dal leave for Hope Island.
Tai-San forms a circle to send them some 'positive energy',
though Jack scoffs at the idea as usual, and KC careens into
them on a skateboard. To break the circle is very bad karma! |
|
|
With the leaders away, KC gets up to no good
in the City. There's a Casino near the train station run by
Tribe Circus, and when KC trades a heap of good batteries (stolen
from Jack) and a pig (Cloe's pig Porky) for gambling chips,
their psycho leader Top-Hat really ought to know about it. Perhaps
KC will tell them where he got the goods? They hold him for
questioning. |
|
|
The Hope Island expedition returns to the Mall.
Within hours Lex shows the first symptoms of the Virus. Luckily
they have brought back some samples, possibly it's the Antidote,
but Lex refuses to try it.
Lex asks Tai-San for advice. She sets him on a spiritual path
where honesty and truth are paramount. Lex apologizes to everyone
in turn for past wrongs.
Lex apologizes to Patsy and Cloe, in particular for killing their
chicken. They both forgive him. |
|
|
Lex leaves the Mall, punishing himself with self-imposed
exile. Once he has gone, the Mallrats finally wake up to the danger
that KC has put the Mallrats in. They get ready for an attack by Tribe
Circus. Meanwhile Lex has already spotted KC being forced to lead
Top-Hat to the Mall. |
Tribe
Circus Invasion - Ep.46 |
As expected, Tribe Circus arrive at the Mall.
Top-Hat spots the security camera and waves. Then KC is made
to show them the way in through the sewers.
Cloe and Patsy are hidden and locked in the Market lift cage
for their own safety, together with the animals. Already it
is becoming smelly.
Believing they can be more useful outside than in, they break
out of the cage. Positioning themselves at the top of the stairs
with CO2 extinguishers, the thick clouds make quite
an impact, but soon their cylinders are empty, and Tribe Circus
resume their assault. |
|
|
|
|
The Mallrats put up a good fight, but they are
simply outnumbered. Eventually they run out of booby traps and
energy. Tribe Circus have taken the Mall and the Mallrats are
made to pledge their allegiance to Top-Hat.
After a Victory Feast, Top-Hat drags Zandra to the nearest bed.
This is too much for KC, the only male to have stayed out of
trouble and not get locked behind the grille. After climbing
a rope to the balcony, KC pulls Top-Hat off Zandra and kicks
him hard where it hurts.
Tribe Circus leave the Mall. The Mallrats cannot survive long
with a raging fire just the other side of the grille. |
|
|
Lex at last persuades Ebony to help. The Mallrats
never thought they would be glad to see the Locos. But there's
a catch: Ebony wants just one thing - the Antidote samples from
Hope Island. These she takes, plus Lex and Bray as hostages.
|
|
|
Eagle
Mountain - Ep.51-52 |
The Antidote might have been stolen by Ebony,
but Jack still has the computer files from Hope Island. After
working round the clock with Dal, Jack wakes everyone to announce
an important discovery. They have seen the same map reference
in many files. It is the location of Eagle Mountain. Jack believes
they must all go there.
Eagle Mountain is 30 miles away. Jack doesn't even know what's
there, so it's out of the question.
The following day Tai-San reports a dream, about an Eagle and
a mountain. |
|
|
Next day the Mallrats set out. Patsy and Cloe insist
that even the animals should go. |
|
|
Just outside the City, the Mallrats encounter
a manned barricade. The reason they give is to prevent plague-carrying
City dwellers from spreading disease beyond the City. Bray arrives
in a Ebony's bus! After a rebellion led by Spike, she is no
longer queen of the Locos.
After the Mallrats are on board, Bray drives the bus straight
through the barricade. |
|
|
The bus breaks down about halfway to the Mountain,
and the rest of the journey is made on food with the help of
Tai-San's 'spiritual navigation'. |
|
|
What lies on the crest of Eagle Mountain is a
satellite tracking station. Jack and Dal are able to switch
it on, but they are none the wiser. But then a certain satellite
passes overhead. The station tracks it and relays an important
message. This message, together with computer files that Jack
downloads, will change the lives of everyone in Tribeworld.
There is a supply of Antidote somewhere in the City. |
