Wind
Turbine MKII - Ep.32 |
With Dal back on the team, and with KC proving
to be just as practical with his hands as Dal, MKII version
of the wind turbine rapidly takes shape. The frame is now made
from steel tubing instead of wood, and the alternator hasn't
been sabotaged by Lex. They give it a test run and it works.
Soon every car battery in the surrounding area will have been
brought to the Mall and charged. Soon they can begin to trade. |
|
|
Jack
gets a broken leg - Ep.32 |
It is two days before Lex and Zandra are to be
married. Zandra dreams of a real banquet. Sasha suggests trading
the newly charged batteries at a local farm for fresh food.
At first Bray sulks (because it wasn't his idea). After a night's
sleep he agrees to lead the way. They stop at the nearest farm
- and meet Alice. Alice drives a hard bargain, but she is fair
and honest. She is also larger than life and has some fun at
Lex's expense. Included in the farm produce is two gallons of
cider - that the boys will keep for themselves.
That night, while the girls sit round a table for a civilized
meal, the boys drink cider, and become a bit wild. In a rollerblade
race round the Mall, KC collides with Jack and injures his leg. |
|
|
|
|
Ryan has to carry Jack to the wedding next day, his
leg is so painful. After the wedding Salene, Ryan, Sasha, Amber all
leave the Mall for various reasons. |
|
|
Jack's leg gets worse. Dal administers painkillers
up to the maximum dose but he is still in agony. Tai-San examines
the leg. It's broken. She applies some herbal ointment and a
splint. All Jack can do now is let time heal the fracture.
Jack is not one to relax in bed, not while there's maintenance
to be done on his various inventions. He demands some kind of
vehicle. Dal comes up with the sedan chair idea. Jack is skeptical.
When they test it out, oh look! a chair with no arms!
Dal continues to administer painkillers. Jack continues to demand
more. KC pockets some heavy duty sleeping pills when Dal isn't
looking. They are far more effective than painkillers! |
|
|
Life
after Sasha / Jack's adult |
In Ep.36 Amber makes the hardest decision of her
life, to say good-bye to Sasha. Ryan and Salene come back to
the Mall and Salene owns up to being the food thief. But Amber
finds it hard to slot back in to normal tribe life. She is in
a kind of mourning, for the relationship with Sasha that might
have been. Bray finds himself filling in for her, organizing
the chores, just until Amber is back to normal.
Patsy's birthday comes around. Trudy is getting everyone in
party mood at the top of the stairs. Everyone gives Cloe a present
for Patsy as they arrive for breakfast. Everyone? Jack tries
to opt out and Bray has to carry him. He has no present and
Dal finds his missing crutch hidden under the bed! |
|
|
The next project that Dal and Jack work on is
a surveillance system - CCTV. Dal instals a camera overlooking
the loading bay.
Late that night Jack reviews the tape and although the picture
quality it more like a snow storm, there's definitely an old
man in the frame. |
|
|
|
|
Jack wakes everyone immediately. They've just
got to see the tape. The playback is so bad that no one is sure
what's there and what must have been Jack's imagination. It's
1 a.m. and everyone goes back to bed.
Patsy alone believes in the adult that Jack saw. The following
morning she goes trekking with Bob to track him down. |
|
|
The Mallrats have been through a bad time, and
seemed about to fall apart. Lex wants Amber's job and Bray out.
Handing out pots of paint and brushes, Bray decides to channel
people's imagination into brightening the place up.
Lex seizes his chance. He starts a paint fight. It's great fun
and everyone lets off steam. But for Lex this is simply a diversion
while KC plants bottles of water in Bray's room. After the paint
fight KC arranges for Cloe to "find" them there, then
persuades her to report it. Lex milks the situation to the max. |
|
|
Jack has a pretty good idea what's going on and where
the water really came from - Lex's secret stash. He convinces Ryan
to come forward, to save Bray from being thrown out. The truth will
be better coming from Ryan than from Jack.
Ryan warns Lex that he isn't going to back Lex up, not this time, not
if it means Bray will be thrown out for something he didn't do. Lex
uses Zandra to exploit Ryan's feelings for her. For if Lex is expelled,
she will end up on the street with him. Meanwhile Tai-San and Trudy
persuade Amber to hold a proper trial. Otherwise Lex will bully everyone
and get his own way. Miles away from the Mall Patsy has found the
adult. |
|
|
When Jack next encounters Ryan, he guesses from
his evasive manner that Ryan has changed his mind. He won't
say why. Unfortunately for Jack, Lex is now standing right behind
him!
Lex kicks Jack's crutch away and pins him to the wall. If Jack
should dare to breathe one word against him, he will break his
other leg.
Jack has been silenced, though his conscience nags at him to reveal
the truth. Cloe asks him, "If someone did put the water
there, who do you think it would be?" It's an innocent
question, but it distresses Jack to the core, and he asks her
to leave. |
|
|
|
|
During the trial Jack leaves the court 'unwell'
after Tai-San has reminded everyone that keeping silent, if
they know the truth, is likely to make something 'bad' to happen
to them. Amber questions first Lex, then KC, then Zandra. They
all deny any knowledge. Lex suggests that Amber's judgment has
been affected following her breakup with Sasha.
Bray can see where this is all going. Without waiting for a
verdict, Bray decides to leave the tribe anyway.
Bray has packed his bag and is on his way out amid a shouting
match between Lex and Amber. She can see that Lex will eventually
destroy the Mallrats. At last Jack comes forward, despite Lex
having threatened to break his leg. Blocking Bray's path, he
announces that he knows where the water came from. |
|
|
Before Jack can say "Lex", KC blurts out that
he himself did it. Bray now wants to put KC on trial - how would Lex
feel about that?
Court proceedings come to a very sudden halt when Patsy brings in
her adult. Strangely, the adult recognizes Lex and collapses in his
arms to the floor. |
Amber soon realizes that Patsy's 'adult' is a
virus-infected Glen. He, Lex and Patsy are all quarantined.
KC leaves the Mallrats in fear, but returns when he finds that
everywhere in the City 'old people' are being stoned to death.
Jack resumes his search for radio contacts with a vengeance.
Dal gives him yet another stern reality check, Jack must face
grim reality, there's no one out there. |
|
|
Patsy and Lex are brought out of quarantine. This
is not the answer. What they need is a cure for the Virus. Bray
organizes two teams to find information on how the Virus started.
He, Amber and KC visit the Health ministry. Lex and Dal search
the local offices of a national newspaper.
When they get back Glen has already died. They cremate his body
on some open ground. Neither team found anything really significant.
At the end of the day, as the two teams swap notes, it becomes
apparent that scraps of information, a name, a place, add together
to something worth investigating. Jack puts it all together. |
|
|
It seems that the Pandorax company was
working on a top-secret anti-aging project on nearby Hope Island.
It went wrong, releasing a Virus that killed all the adults.
Jack speculates that this virus has mutated, and now affects
people of any age.
Bray, Amber, Lex and Dal find a small boat and row the short
distance across the bay to Hope Island. Jack cannot go because
his leg is still broken.
While they are away, Tai-San gathers the remaining Mallrats
into a circle to send them some positive energy. Jack is incredulous
and heads off to do something useful. KC rollerblades his way
toward the circle, loses control and land in a heap in the center.
It's BAD karma to break the circle! |
|
|
|
|
Jack's
leg is healed. KC tangles with Tribe Circus - Ep.43-46 |
With the leaders all away on Hope Island, KC runs
amok, doing just about everything stupid and/or reckless imaginable.
He begins by ruining Bray's mural, then moves on to Cloe's pig,
painting stripes on it. Next he raids Jack's workshop for batteries
then heads for the Casino, exchanging the batteries for gambling
chips. He loses the lot and comes back for more.
Unfortunately Jack is inconveniently there, as if guarding his
remaining batteries. KC doesn't notice that Jack is actually
removing the splint from his leg. It is now mended. |
|
|
Cloe doesn't trust KC at all when she sees him taking
Porky "for a walk" and insists on going with him. The story
is the same as before, he loses almost everything at Poker. Cloe escapes
with Porky, but KC is captured and interrogated by Top-Hat, the psycho
leader of Tribe Circus. Just where did he obtain all those good batteries
and a pig? |
The leaders return from Hope Island with what
is hopefully some samples of Antidote - a cure for the Virus.
Lex contracts the virus within hours of returning, but refuses
to try the 'Antidote' on himself. Instead he follows Tai-San's
spiritual 'cure', whereby he puts himself on trial for all past
wrongs, then sentences himself to exile.
Meanwhile, Jack is trying to decode the computer files Dal brought
back from Hope Island. |
|
|
Amber and Bray get together at last. Their first
kiss is soon followed by Amber moving into "Headspace"
with Bray.
Cloe returns to the Mall with Porky. When her story eventually
sinks in there's real cause for concern. From her description
Bray realizes they will soon come under attack from Top-Hat
and Tribe Circus.
Everyone gets to work setting booby traps. Jack and Dal work
together in the sewers.
Meanwhile Lex has spotted KC being forced by Top-Hat to lead
the way to the Mall. He appeals to Ebony for help. At first
she refuses and locks him up. |
|
|
Jack spots Tribe Circus outside the loading bay
and raises the alarm. Soon they will be marching through the
sewers.
The plan is that Ryan will lure Tribe Circus past the grille,
then Jack will lower it, trapping them.
The plan almost works, but for an obstacle that prevents the
grille dropping to the floor. Top-Hat and others squeeze under,
and the fight continues.
Sooner or later, the Mallrats run out of traps and stamina.
They have put up a good fight but Top-Hat has won. |
|
|
|
|
Following their "victory feast" Tribe
Circus proceed to ravish the girls, or the closest approximation
allowable in a kid's show. Top-Hat in similar vein tries to
rape Zandra. Enter KC, the only Mallrat guy on the loose. He
kicks Top-Hat "in the nuts". |
|
|
|
Top-Hat calls the whole rape and pillage thing off and
leaves the Mall, with a nice fire blazing to roast the Mallrats.
Ebony arrives with a band of Locos. Lex has made a deal with her,
to rescue the Mallrats from Top-Hat in return for the Antidote.
The Mallrats are shocked to see how rapidly Lex has aged. Ebony demands
(with threats) to be given the Antidote - all of it. Jack sees no
point in holding out and takes Ebony to the Magazine store where he
has hidden the box. |
Amber makes a futile attempt to snatch the Antidote
back, but Ebony's answer is simply to suspend Bray over the Balcony
ready to drop. With the Antidote back in her possession Ebony also
takes Lex and Bray back to her HQ at the Hotel. |
With Bray snatched away from her, so soon after
they had become an item, Amber is beside herself and in despair.
Jack works round the clock to decipher the Hope Island computer
files. Dal isn't optimistic. |
|
|
|
Lex refuses to swallow any more Antidote and pours the
rest into Ebony's pool. She throws him out onto the street. Lex plays
dead in a pile of trash to lure some unsuspecting Loco. He returns
to the Mall clad in Loco gear! Meanwhile Dal repairs a radio controlled
helicopter he finds in the Service Area. With Amber growing more and
more desperate about Bray, and likely to embark on a one-girl suicide
mission to rescue him, Ryan and Dal fly the helicopter over the Hotel
with a camcorder attached. The brief footage they bring back is devastating
for Amber. It shows Ebony by the pool astride Bray giving him a back
rub. She cannot know that Bray had no choice. Zandra makes a discovery:
Lex doesn't look quite so old. The Antidote Ebony forced him to drink
is starting to work! |
Eagle
Mountain - Ep.50-52 |
Jack's first breakthrough with the computer files
comes with entering the correct password which turns out to
be "please". It was KC who gave him the inspiration
for that one. Next, Salene suggests he should search the files
with the most recent dates. Again this bears fruit. Jack finds
many files containing the word "Eagle" and one of
these also with a code number. When he shows his findings to
Dal, it's Dal who guesses it's a map reference. Sure enough
they find Eagle Mountain, on a map, at the coordinates given.
Jack wakes everyone up to tell them the wonderful news that
they must all go to Eagle Mountain. The trouble is, Jack has
no idea what they might find there, if anything. They all go
back to bed. |
|
|
The food situation at the Mall is so critical that it
is decided to send out a raiding party - to raid a Loco warehouse.
Ryan and KC are the obvious choices and Salene won't take 'no' for
an answer.
They come back, mission successful, and a bag of food to share out.
Tai-San makes a rare appearance, usually she is in the Pharmacy meditating.
All last night she had a dream, or vision - about a Mountain, and
an Eagle.
This is confirmation Jack could never have hoped for. Eagle Mountain.
There's no question now, they must go there. |
The Mallrats set out on foot. Their handcart falls
apart as they pass a gang of crazies who proceed to harass them.
A motorbike heads in their direction. Top-Hat! The crazies scatter,
terrified. It's Lex and Ryan, they've been giving pay-back for
what Top-Hat nearly did to Zandra.
Outside the City they encounter a barricade manned by very serious
people set on preventing the virus from spreading outside the
City.
Meanwhile Spike has led a rebellion of the Locos against Ebony,
and ousted her. Finding the Mall deserted, and a note for Bray
left by Trudy, Ebony and Bray catch the Mallrats up in her escape-bus.
Bray smashes through the barricade with all the Mallrats on
board. |
|
|
Unfortunately, while the Mallrats were running to board
the bus, one of the guys trying to hold them back snatches Jack's
bag. It contained all his maps and a compass. The bus breaks down
long before they reach Eagle mountain and they are obliged to carry
on on foot once more. |
Without maps or a compass, Jack can no longer
give directions by the "scientific method". Instead
he is forced to consult Tai-San. She seeks guidance from the
spiritual realm and as Lex says, a spiritual path is better
than no path at all. |
|
|
Each hill and valley is followed by just one more. Jack
is exhausted. Then from the next ridge Tai-San signals. They have
reached their destination. |
|
|
What they find is a satellite tracking station.
But no one, not even Jack, can say how this might help them.
Dal discovers that the computer is voice activated. He commands
it to scan the sky. It finds nothing. It's the end of the road.
Many in the tribe are forming plans to go their own way. Lex
and Zandra announce their intention.
Jack hacks into the computer and downloads files. Tai-San is
committed to staying with Jack to see the thing through.
Amber notices that Bray has already gone, and runs out to find
him, followed by Lex.
Amber catches up with Bray. They kiss and make up, with a little
encouragement from Lex.
The antenna picks up a satellite passing in orbit and tracks
it. It relays a prerecorded message. |
|
|
|
Attention.
This is a prerecorded message.
If you are listening to this, the only hope for
humanity lies with you, whoever you are.
Listen very carefully to what I have to say next. |
