Bray announces the plan to visit Hope Island.
The party will consist of himself, Amber, Lex and Dal. (Plus
Bob).
On their way to the beach, they pass the still-smoldering remains
of Glen's funeral pyre. It's a topical reminder of the danger
that hangs over each of them. |
|
|
|
|
Finding a small boat on the beach, they row across
to the island that lies in the bay.
Lex throws a stick to test the electric fence surrounding the
Pandorax compound, then another. There's an explosion where
it lands! They are in a minefield; Bray and Dal clear a path
to the gate. |
|
|
|
|
Something behind the door makes opening it a
real struggle. Amber screams - it's a skeleton. But around its
neck there's an electronic passcard, and this enables them to
get into the high security lab. Inside there's a box of vials,
or samples. Could this be the Virus Antidote? Maybe the computer
can tell them?
While Dal accesses the computer, Bray and Amber chat outside.
Then just when Bray is about to say how he feels about her,
Lex comes bounding up with a message from Dal. He's making progress
and would like them to be inside.
However, Dal accidentally triggers the security system, and
the door closes, trapping all of them in the airtight room.
Lex is confident they will find a way out. There's a switch
box. Lex reluctantly confides to Bray that he can't read the
labels. They try all the switches in turn, but none of them
opens that door.
Dal is in a bad way, drifting in and out of consciousness for
lack of air. In a lucid moment he suggests shorting the entire
system. Amber passes the suggestion on and Bray does it. It
works! The doors opens just long enough for Lex to wedge himself
in the gap. |
|
|
The travelers return to the mainland, but at the Mall
two items of news await them: Tai-San is sick, and KC and Cloe are
missing. Everyone assumes Tai-San has the Virus. Accordingly Lex insists
she should play guinea pig to test their samples from Hope Island.
In fact no one is totally sure what the samples are. Tai-San refuses.
Then Lex himself coughs... in short he himself has the virus, and
just like Tai-San refuses to test the antidote on himself. |
|
|
At the end of the day Bray and Amber share a
cup of cocoa. And then their first kiss.
The following day Lex decides to follow Tai-San's methods to
cure himself. The fact is Tai-San never had the Virus, just
the 'flu. But Lex really is growing old - by the day. Lex's
spiritual path requires total honesty and truth. To that end
he makes his peace with all those he hurt, but in such a way
that he makes matters worse! With all this going on no one takes
much notice when Cloe returns with a wild story about KC and
a gambling den.
It's only the next day, with Lex now gone and walking the streets,
that it slowly dawns on |
|
|
people - like Ryan - that KC might be in real trouble,
and that he might bring that trouble back to the Mall.
A Council of War is called. Trudy comes to fetch Bray and is taken
aback to find Amber in bed with him. In fact she's most sarcastic
and bitchy toward Bray. |
|
|
After a short announcement by Bray (about Amber),
Cloe describes as best she can what happened to KC and where.
Bray is in no doubt she is talking about Tribe Circus. Their
leader, Top-Hat, is a psycho.
The Mallrats set booby traps in the sewers and in the Mall.
In case they are separated and never see each other again, Bray
gives Amber a small set of keys as a keepsake - 'the keys to
his heart'. Amber gives Bray a ring, once belonging to her dad. |
|
|
When KC (under duress) leads Top-Hat and Tribe Circus
through the Sewers, they meet with a number of booby traps. But these
serve only to slow the invaders down, not to stop them. Soon they
smash their way through the green doors.
The Mallrats put up a valiant fight. Top-Hat seems quite exhilarated
by the experience. But the end result is inevitable and the girls
are ordered to prepare a victory feast for Tribe Circus. Then the
guys are locked behind the grille, while Top-Hat and his tribe have
fun with the girls. There's one exception: KC didn't join in the fight
to defend the Mall. Rather he snuck into corners to avoid the action.
Zandra gets Top-Hat's personal attention, and he has every intention
of raping her. Fortunately her screams bring out the warrior in KC.
He climbs up to her room and kicks Top-Hat "in the nuts."
The experience tempers Top-Hat's desire. He washes his hands of the
Mallrats and walks out, leaving a raging fire that will eventually
roast them all alive behind the grille. |
|
|
Help comes from an unexpected source. Whilst
on the road, Lex found out that Top-Hat was on his way to trash
the Mall and asked Ebony for help. She agreed to help when Lex
told her about the Antidote samples from Hope Island.
The Locos quickly put out the fire and release the Mallrats.
But Ebony's help comes at a price - the price agreed with Lex.
Ebony takes the Antidote samples, Lex (to test it on) and Bray
(to spite Amber). |

Bray
and Ebony - Ep.47-51 |
|
|
There never is a "Bray and Ebony",
but whilst he is her prisoner at the hotel she tries her best
to make it happen.
Meanwhile, Lex is kept locked up in a dark room, forced to take
the Antidote on a regular basis. But one day he escapes, and
empties all the Antidote into the swimming pool. Ebony has no
further use for him and has him thrown back onto the street.
Back at the Mall, Dal and KC find an old radio-controlled helicopter.
Amber gives the go-ahead to fly it over the Hotel with a camcorder
attached to try and locate Bray. By chance they capture shots
of Ebony massaging Bray's back. |
|
|
Amber cannot know that Bray wasn't a willing subject.
Plus Trudy explains that Bray and Ebony did have a brief relationship
before the virus. Amber draws the obvious conclusion that Bray is
cheating on her.
Jack and Dal decode some of the Hope Island computer files and come
up with a new place worth a visit: Eagle Mountain, about thirty miles
away. It's out of the question! Then Tai-San has a dream that seems
to confirm it. |
|
|
Spike leads a rebellion among the Locos against
Ebony. They do not like the fact that she has gone soft, living
a life of luxury, obsessed with Bray, instead of the streetfighter
she once was. A small group bust in to her room at dawn.
Bray comes to her aid. They beat off the attack and escape to
the Mall.
But the Mall is deserted. Ebony finds a message that the Mallrats
have gone to Eagle Mountain. Ebony takes Bray to a secret bus
she has been keeping hidden in case she needed to make a rapid
escape some time. |
|
|
|
|
With Bray driving, he and Ebony soon catch up
with the Mallrats. But the road is barricaded against them by
people who who fear that all City-dwellers carry the Virus.
The Mallrats get on the bus, then Bray drives it through the
barricade. |

Why
does Amber hate Bray? - Ep.52 |
|
|
The bus doesn't get far before it breaks down
beyond Dal's skill to fix it. Bray was so looking forward to
being reunited with Amber, yet she now hates him. But why? He
figures she believes he cheated on her with Ebony.
After many miles walking the Mallrats find what they came for,
a satellite tracking station. But what's it for? How does it
help them? Jack has no idea either. Dal succeeds in making it
scan the sky but it finds nothing.
This is the end of the road. Many of the Mallrats have already
decided to leave the tribe and go their separate ways. |
|
|
Amber suddenly realizes that Bray has already left.
Without hesitation she runs after him. Surely he isn't leaving without
saying good-bye? Lex comes into his own. He understands why Amber
has rejected Bray. He also knows that Bray never cheated on her. Under
Lex's direction they kiss and make up. |
|
|
Then a satellite passes in orbit broadcasting
its message concerning the Antidote. The tracking station picks it
up and gives the Mallrats extremely important information. But then
there's an explosion. Zandra is killed and so too, apparently, is
Amber. Bray mourns for her, and is set on leaving the tribe to find
his own path, but reconsiders, for Amber would have wanted him to
continue as leader.
In Season 2, Bray finds a new girl, Danni. The Mallrats
find the Antidote formula, and supply the City, thereby becoming the
dominant tribe. But the City is taken by a Zoot cult, the Chosen.
Amber is all but forgotten, until in Season 3 a small band of rebels
(against the Chosen) led by Bray discover that Amber is very much
alive! |
