Sasha,
Farm Girls, the Wedding - Ep.30-35 |
Sasha is a hapless traveling entertainer who was fooled
by the Nomads' outward show of hospitality before becoming their prisoner,
to be sold as a slave alongside Dal. When Ryan rescued Dal and Amber
at the Tribal Gathering, Sasha was obliged to go where Dal went, being
chained to him at the wrists.
At the Mall, everyone likes Sasha. He entertains the Kids with music
and tells them stories; and he has an easygoing manner. Zandra and
Lex have announced a new date for their wedding, and Sasha comes up
with the idea of trading charged batteries at a nearby farm in return
for fresh produce. He even volunteers to make the journey himself. |
Bray hates Sasha, or at the least is intensely
jealous of him. It's his job to provide provisions for the tribe,
and he knows how dangerous it is "out there".
He also makes it rather obvious that he resents providing food
for Sasha, who only "plays games" all day. Bray issues
an ultimatum: he can stay for the wedding, but he wants him
gone soon after.
The real reason for Bray's jealousy is that Amber has begun
to fall for Sasha. Bray's ultimatum makes Sasha bolder, and
he declares his feelings to her. |
|
|
|
|
Next day it is Bray, not Sasha, who goes with
Lex and the boys with a load of charged batteries to trade.
He has gotten over sulking about Sasha (for now) and certainly
knows how to deal with people. Lex on his own would be a trading
liability, antagonizing and bullying people instead of negotiating.
In fact that's just what he tries to do when they find a nearby
farm. Fortunately, Alice, the farm owner, is more than a match
for Lex...
With Bray to keep Lex in order, bartering and haggling get under
way. When all is said and done, they come away with 2 gallons
of cider, a pig, and fresh vegetables. |
|
|
|
|
As soon as they are back, Lex sends Dal to hide
the cider. Everything else is for the girls' party feast tonight.
During the day, Bray becomes intensely jealous when he spots
Amber kissing Sasha.
When it's time for the party, Bray doesn't show up, and Lex
is obliged to summon him. It's probably good for him, otherwise
he would have sulked in his room all night.
However Sasha is also there, and it isn't long before Bray challenges
him to ride his skateboard. Sasha has the good sense to decline.
But it does give KC and Dal an idea... |
|
|
|
|
With inhibitions and good sense now taken over
by alcohol, KC and Dal race each other round the Mall on rollerblades,
with Jack commentating into a pretend microphone.
The end result is perhaps predictable. KC loses control and
crashes into Jack, breaking his leg. Zandra runs to the balcony
to see what has happened and freaks.
The party is well and truly over. Ryan carries Jack to bed,
and Amber orders Zandra to bed, leaving Sasha and Amber to embrace
and gaze into each other's eyes. |
|
|
The following morning Amber performs the ceremony.
This time there are no unwelcome guests, and Lex and Zandra
at last become man and wife. This was the marriage that Tai-San
said would bring the Tribe together. But it has the opposite
effect.
Ryan leaves the Tribe, since Zandra is now beyond his reach.
Amber and Sasha take time out - several days to themselves on
the beach.
Salene gives in to her bulimic food cravings and runs to Roanne
for food. But there's a price: she must stay there and be nice
to male customers. |
|
|
Lex and KC make the Café filthy and don't care.
The rest of the time Lex shouts orders and threats to Ryan, not realizing
he is now miles away.
Jack's leg is broken, and he can't get around to fix things.
Bray sulks and refuses to help Trudy, who is the only one left trying
to keep the place clean and the kids fed. She's fighting a losing
battle, and Bray isn't concerned that there are now rats in the café.
Trudy calls him useless, and she's right.
Patsy and Cloe are utterly miserable, in tears, for no one seems to
care about them any more. Bray cannot assure Cloe that he will always
be there for them. |

Parting
of Ways: Amber Returns - Ep.36 |
Amber is so smitten with Sasha that she promises to
leave the Mall and go away with him. All she needs is to say good-bye.
She finds the Mall in chaos and filthy. Lex has killed and eaten Cloe's
pet Henrietta. |
On the bright side, Salene returns with Ryan,
and admits she stole the food. Then it's time to leave - forever.
Bray knows he cannot stop Amber, and doesn't try.
Once outside the Mall, Amber looks back. So many people need
her. And with no one there to stand up to Lex....
Amber's heart goes with Sasha, but she feels morally bound to
the Mall. From the roof Bray watches Amber turn back sobbing;
Sasha leaving on his own. Bray's face is a mocking half-grin.
His rival Sasha is leaving empty-handed. |

Bray
takes the reins of Leadership. Lex and KC object - Ep.37 |
Amber's decision to stay at the Mall was made
from duty and obligation to those who needed her. But such a
love for Sasha cannot be easily forgotten. For weeks she mostly
sits alone, remembering.
Until now, Bray as "provisions man", and one of the
leaders, has not asserted his Leader's role. But with Amber
keeping to herself, it falls to Bray to keep the Mall running
smoothly. |

|
It's Patsy's birthday. Everyone is in party mood,
including Bray who times the music-stops so that Jack wins 'musical
chairs.' Then it's time to blow out the candle on the cake.
Suddenly Patsy becomes terribly upset. She doesn't want to grow
old and die from the virus. But that's what will soon happen
to everyone isn't it?
There's nothing like work to take peoples' minds off things.
Bray runs through Amber's new roster. KC disrupts and heckles.
Bray crosses his name off the list as "one less mouth to
feed."
Lex takes up where KC left off, but his comments are far more
brutal and caustic. He openly declares his intention of having
Bray thrown out.
In the middle of the night Lex gets KC out of bed and takes him
aside. Lex has thought of a way to get rid of Bray. |

Lex
and KC frame Bray - Ep.38-39 |
|
|
Against a background where Jack claims to have
spotted a real adult in recordings from his newly installed
surveillance camera, Bray diverts everyone's thoughts into decorating
the Mall. Handing out brushes and paint, everyone gets busy.
Lex starts a paint fight, and Bray really believes Amber should
join in the fun. But she isn't in the mood.
Lex had an ulterior motive. While everyone gets covered in paint,
KC hides some bottles of water (from Lex's stash) under the
counter in Bray's room.
Next, KC teams up with Cloe to do some cleaning round the Mall.
They start with Bray's room.
And guess what Cloe finds under the counter... |
|
|
|
|
Trudy and Tai-San don't believe Bray stole the
water, but unless Amber can be persuaded to conduct a trial
to find out the truth, Lex will have his way and Bray will be
thrown out. For his part, Bray is all but ready to leave the
tribe now, if people believe he is a thief.
Plenty of people know or suspect that the water really came
from Lex's water stash. But Lex blackmails such people as Ryan
and Jack to keep quiet.
Things don't look good for Bray, so he packs his bags and decides
to leave before the court finds him guilty.
At the last minute, despite Lex's promise to break his other
leg, Jack comes forward, ready to reveal the real truth as to
who planted the water in Bray's room.
To protect his hero Lex, KC owns up - and he's "really
sorry". Bray knows it must have been Lex behind it all.
He proposes putting KC on trial - and throwing him out.
That's as far as the trial goes. Patsy walks in with her Adult
she's been stalking all day. It's not an adult of course but
Glen, soon to die from the virus. |

Bray
and Amber - Ep.40-47 |
|
|
Bray no longer has suspicion hanging over him
that he stole water. Everyone knows it was Lex. Bray and Amber
are now thinking and acting together. Suddenly, the most important
issue is the Virus. Lex and Patsy are both in quarantine, for
they both came into contact with Glen. Zandra is looking after
both Glen and Lex, though it will not be long before Glen dies.
The following morning in the Café, Bray and Amber put
an idea to everyone. They need to find information about the
Virus.
Two teams will look for information. Bray, Amber and KC will
search the offices of the Health Ministry. Lex and Dal will
search the newspaper office. |
|
|
|
|
Neither team finds anything interesting. Amber
finds a shred of paper that links Hope Island and the Pandorax
company. It doesn't seem important.
When they return to the Mall, Glen has already died. Tai-San
conducts the cremation on some waste ground. Patsy is terribly
upset, for it was she who brought Glen to the Mall.
Later that night Bray and Dal both realize they have seen the
word "Pandorax" in connection with a secret project.
Jack puts it all together. The Pandorax company were working
on a top-secret anti-aging project on Hope Island. Somehow it
went wrong, releasing a virus that caused aging among the adult
population. That virus has mutated, and now affects anyone regardless
of age.
It seems, the best place to start looking for answers is Hope
Island. |
