Ryan
likes Kids. Ryan and Zandra - Ep.41-42 |
Glen has died, and the search is on for a cure. Ryan
wants to be a father, judging by the way he fusses over Brady. Trudy
speculates that Ryan and Salene are right for each other. Salene isn't
sure. The lightning bolt love thing she always hoped for just hasn't
happened. |
Ryan finds Salene, back to her old bulimic habits, bingeing
in the sewers. Of course she is so ashamed, but Ryan is kindly, and
admits that he too has done things he is ashamed of.
Like what? she asks. Ryan confides that at Bray's trial, he knew all
along that it was Lex, but kept quiet because of Zandra. Salene guesses
the rest, and storms away to confront Zandra. That wasn't what Ryan
wanted at all. |
Is
Ryan cracking? - Ep.43 |
|
|
With large numbers of people in the City aging
and dying like Glen, the Mallrat leaders & Dal have gone
to Hope Island, following a possible lead on the Pandorax research
company.
Stress affects people different ways. Ryan cooks food, lots
of it, for everyone, even though rations are short. He's obsessed
with food to take his mind off the Virus.
But food isn't the answer. Salene watches Ryan pacing his room,
"I'm not going to get it. It's not going to get near me..." |
|
|
Meanwhile, KC is getting into trouble at the Casino,
and dragging Cloe down with him. The Hope Island mission returns with
samples of Antidote (maybe). And Lex shows the first signs of infection
within hours of getting back, but refuses to try the 'Antidote'. Lex
knows he is dying and wants to set things straight with Ryan. It's
Ryan in fact who puts Lex on to trying Tai-San's methods. |
|
|
Ryan |
|
You wanted to see me? |
Lex |
|
I've got to talk to you......Sit
down.........I'm going, man. |
Ryan |
|
Where? |
Lex |
|
To DIE |
Ryan |
|
Lex, you can't die |
Lex |
|
Don't interrupt me......The
thing is, you're my best friend.....I've known you as long as
I can remember...you're the only family I've had |
Ryan |
|
Lex, It's okay - |
Lex |
|
I haven't finished.......I'd
hate to go, thinking there was bad blood between us - is there
man?..........I have to know. |
Ryan |
|
No, not really |
Lex |
|
I can understand if there
is.....and I've pulled some pretty dirty tricks on you....put
you in some deep water....caused you nothing but trouble |
|
|
Ryan |
|
And you've bossed me around
- that too! |
Lex |
|
Yeh!..........And worse.......Can
you forgive me? |
Ryan |
|
Course I can |
Lex |
|
Thanks |
Ryan |
|
Why not try the antidote? |
Lex |
|
Until Jack can tell me what's
in it, there's no hope for me |
Ryan |
|
There is - Tai-San - she
was ill too, but now she's better |
Lex |
|
How? |
Ryan |
|
She did it herself - did
all her weird stuff, you know? - took some potions and that......she's
good as new! |
Lex |
|
Tai-San! |
|
Tai-San shows Lex how to begin his spiritual journey,
starting with total honesty. Thus the apology he gave to Ryan is repeated
for everyone in turn. Finally he puts himself on trial and sentences
himself to exile. Zandra is glad to see him go - she says.
Outside, Lex tracks KC to the casino, but it's too late. Top-Hat has
already learnt all he needs to know, and is now forcing KC to lead
him to the Mall. Lex heads for Ebony at the Hotel: maybe she will
help? |
The Mallrats finally wake up to the real danger
that KC is likely to bring down on them, having tangled with
Tribe Circus. A Council of War is called, then preparations
made for the inevitable attack.
Ryan wants to fulfill his man-role of protecting the women,
Zandra in particular. She makes it clear Ryan is no substitute
for Lex, and the 'witch' Tai-San is going to get payback for
sending him on that 'quest'. |
|
|
During the fight for their home, Zandra swings
a fire extinguisher at someone dragging Salene across the floor,
but hits Ryan instead.
Tribe Circus take the Mall and the girls are made to prepare
a victory feast for them.
Top-Hat withdraws prematurely from the Mall, when KC metes out
punishment for trying to rape Zandra. He leaves the Mallrats
imprisoned behind the grille and a raging fire just the other
side of it. |
|
|
|
|
Lex eventually makes Ebony listen. He offers her
the Antidote from Hope Island in return for rescuing the Mallrats.
The fire is soon put out. The Mallrats are shocked to see how
rapidly Lex has aged.
Zandra is worried that her unborn baby might be infected by
the Virus.
Ebony takes the Antidote by force, takes Lex back with her,
and also takes Bray. Amber is distraught. They had only just
become a couple. |

|
Ryan
gets things wrong - Ep.48 |
|
|
Zandra donates most of her jewelry and designer
labels, hoping Ryan will be able to trade them for much-needed
food. But no one in the City is trading, just taking, so he
has little success.
He offers Salene some of Zandra's jewelry, it would make her
look so pretty. Salene feels insulted, that Ryan should think
she would be pleased with Zandra's castoffs. She wants nothing
to do with them. |
|
Amber discovers where Ebony's headquarters are
- at the Hotel - and is a lot happier. But then she starts concocting
lunatic, suicidal plans to go rescue Bray. Dal finds a broken
radio-controlled helicopter in the Service area and fixes it.
He and Ryan put forward their plan to Amber, to overfly the
Hotel with a camcorder strapped to it. She agrees, it's better
than nothing. |
|
|
They start up the 'copter and fly it once over
and behind the Hotel. Dal wants to send it over again, but it's
short on fuel and crashes nearby. All the noise brings Loco
guards who try to capture them. Dal seizes the camera from the
smashed-up 'copter, and Ryan smashes up the Loco guards. |
|
|
Lex returns to the Mall, thrown out by Ebony after he
refused to swallow any more of the samples, and poured the rest into
her swimming pool. The Antidote must have been the genuine stuff,
because the aging process has begun to reverse... Lex is slowly getting
better!
The Mallrats have almost no food left at all. It is agreed that Ryan
and KC must try to find some the following day. Lex is still not strong
enough to go. |
Salene
has begun to treat Ryan with Contempt - Ep.48 |
That night, Ryan checks in at the
Furniture store to see if Salene is still awake. She is. She responds
to his kindness with uncalled-for sarcasm and bitterness. |
Ryan |
|
Salene - you awake? |
Salene |
|
No. I'm asleep. [Ryan
turns to walk away] What? |
Ryan |
|
You know how I'm going out
tomorrow, to get some food? |
Salene |
|
I know. I was there, remember? |
Ryan |
|
So, I wondered if you wanted
anything special |
Salene |
|
It's a bit late at night
to have my own personal shopper isn't it |
Ryan |
|
Well, I wanted to make it
up to you. For ignoring you for Zandra |
|
|
Salene |
|
Forget it. It doesn't matter |
Ryan |
|
It does to me |
Salene |
|
Why? Feeling left out, now
Lex is feeling better? |
Ryan |
|
No. it's not that. It's
just... I wanted to make sure I said sorry, before I go |
Salene |
|
What difference does it
make? |
Ryan |
|
Well, perhaps it doesn't |
Salene |
|
Baked beans if you're asking.
Now, can I get back to sleep |
Ryan |
|
Of course. Take care of
yourself |
|
Meanwhile, Lex and Dal have been working
on the computer files from Hope Island, and wake everyone in the middle
of the night with an amazing discovery. They must all go to Eagle
Mountain. No one takes Jack seriously and they all grumble back to
bed. |
Ryan and KC set off at dawn
to find food, but Salene unexpectedly insists on joining them.
No, it's too dangerous, and they go on without her. Somehow,
she manages to get ahead of them. Since 'NO' isn't going to
work, they become a threesome.
They come to a warehouse guarded by Locos, a sure sign that
there is food inside. Salene is to watch the front while Ryan
and KC break in at the rear. Unexpectedly she kisses him. |
|
|
|
|
The Locos investigate a crash
coming from the rear and catch KC red-handed, exiting from a
window. Salene steps forward to plead for her little 'brother'.
The Locos are prepared to be lenient, since Salene is so pretty
and if she is willing to go inside with them...
Ryan creeps up and smashes their two heads together. Their helmets
are no protection against Ryan. |

|
Eagle
Mountain - Ep.51-52 |
The Mallrats continue to ignore
Jack's Eagle Mountain idea, until Tai-San tells everyone about
her dream. They would normally ignore Tai-San too, save for
the fact that it confirms Jack's findings. They just have to
go.
That night Salene wants to stay with Ryan and he is more than
happy to agree. Since the wedding, Lex has been sleeping in
the Lingerie store with Zandra, and Ryan has been sharing the
boutique with KC instead of Lex. Where KC sleeps tonight is
never revealed.
The following morning Ryan and Salene come down the stairs together,
and looking happy. The implication is obvious, though Lex doesn't
notice. |
|
|
Lex empties his food stash and
some water into Ryan's backpack. It's for Zandra - he explains.
So it looks like Ryan will be Lex's mule as usual. |
|
|
The Mallrats are hardly round the
next block when Lex and Ryan head off somewhere, much to Amber's annoyance,
since they had all agreed to stick together. They return opportunely
on Top-Hat's motorbike, instilling fear into a bunch of crazies harassing
the Mallrats, and scattering them. Lex goes on ahead with Zandra,
but they soon run out of fuel and have to walk like everyone else.
Outside the City, Bray catches them up driving Ebony's getaway bus.
Spike has ousted Ebony as Queen of the Locos, and Bray helped her
to escape. |
The bus breaks down, and while Dal
tries (without success) to fix it, Lex gives his own, highly exaggerated,
bordering on fantasy, account of taking Top-Hat's hat. Ryan humors
him, nodding in agreement. KC believes everything. Zandra knows Lex
better.
Dal gives up on the bus, and they have to walk, following Tai-San's
spiritual guidance since Jack has lost his map and compass. |
When the Mallrats reach Eagle Mountain
they find a satellite tracking station. Not even Jack as any idea
how this can help. Dal discovers how to make it search the skies,
but it finds nothing.
The Mallrats are somewhat disillusioned. This was Jack's and Tai-San's
quest - to find answers about the Virus. They have found nothing.
Lex and Zandra announce they are leaving the Mallrats to start their
own life together. Ryan and Salene agree to adopt Cloe and Patsy and
form a family together. Bray and Amber kiss and make up. Then comes
a pre-recorded message, suddenly, unexpectedly, from a satellite in
orbit above. |
|
Attention.
This is a prerecorded message.
If you are listening to this, the only hope for
humanity lies with you, whoever you are.
Listen very carefully to what I have to say next. |
