New Grille in Season 5. There was a time when the Mallrats could lower the grille, either inner or outer or both, to keep themselves safe from outsiders. The grille was operated by a system of levers on the upper floor of the Mall, and once lowered, a hand-operated winch was needed to raise it. It was impossible to simply grab hold of the grille at its base and lift. It often used to jam, involving Jack - the usual operator - in a struggle with the mechanism. Season 5 no longer has an upstairs, so no grille operating gear. Instead.... Here Lex grabs the grille at the bottom and lifts. Easy! But if it's so easy, anyone could do it, friend or foe. And if that's so, what's the point of having it at all?
